I am too scared to do an #introduction ( Or at least have no idea what to write) so ill ask a question instead.

What got you into Amateur Radio?

For me it was:

(Interest in radios)
Fascinations with number stations when I was young

(Learning about ham radio / phone phreaking / BBS)
Kevin Mitnick's book "ghost in the wires"

(Nail in the coffin that got me looking up how to get my license)
Digital modes / SSTV / Packet Radio.

@VK3MJN I was always fascinated with electronics and electronic gadgets as a kid, but never quite had the access or the budget to get into it seriously.

Had some exposure to ham radio as a teen through the Boy Scouts, but was too intimidated to take the license exams.

Found my people in the hacker culture of the early 2000s. Built a career in tech on those skills.

Eventually overcame my apprehension about the exams and got licensed in 2021.

@VK3MJN First: welcome to our instance! I bet you'll like it here.
What got me into ham radio is that I wanted to learn how radio communication works. I served in the army as an HF RTTY operator but that didn't help me understand how radio waves work. Years later I listened to a podcast by the German Chaos Computer Club. The episode focused on ham radio and that made me think I should give it a try. I still have many questions about radio waves but the most basic ones got answered.
@VK3MJN I got a PhD in computational electromagnetics (#TeamMaxwell) and wanted to walk the walk.

@VK3MJN Don't be scared we don't bite.

Our dad used to take us on long country trips but the radio still worked. How was that possible? That's what sparked my interest. ;)

@VK3MJN welcome to this mastodon for ham radio!
