@rolle i agree, but I think in a long run bsky will attract more users as it gets out of invite only zone.
Reasons are simple - people don't like complicated stuffs, Mastodon is hard to understand, it's very hard to pick a server when joining.
Non tech savy people don't want to set up severs or pick servers, they just want to pick username enter mail, enter password and get going.
As you are a nix user i understand u like setting up everything manually.
(Btw I love Mastodon)
@ashishlotake I'm a *nix user, but I also use an iPhone. I love both worlds. In fact, the older I get the less I want to spend time setting things up.
Mastodon is simple. Just go over a website and create an account. How does that differentiate from any other web service? It's more about the narrative. We make it complicated by babbling about the servers.
Bluesky will probably have a marketing department in the future whereas Mastodon will not. That's just the way it is. But if someone would ask me which one to join, I'd say Mastodon in a heartbeat.
It's also worth to remember it is not about the amount of users. In that regard many other centralized services will most likely perform better, but Mastodon and the Fediverse will thrive for better reasons.
