Deuxfleurs : fabriquons un internet convivial

Association qui œuvre en utilisant ses propres infrastructures, des outils sobres et des valeurs fortes.

@MoritzBrouhaha Interesting idea and fun to create something like this, but I wonder how the carbon footprint of old servers compares to modern servers running in a data center? Might be a wash when you consider embedded carbon in the new servers, I dunno ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@dschwarz

Several studies point out the fact that building new computers has a very high carbon cost. You need to destroy landscapes to extract materials.

Even if old servers consume more electricity, it is better for the environment to keep them as long as possible, instead of just creating more waste.

@MoritzBrouhaha

@dschwarz good question ! It is not my domain of expertise at all but I'm sure you can ask them directly by email if your want to know more !
Énergie | Guide Deuxfleurs

@leckye @MoritzBrouhaha Nice. They covered all my questions. The fact that they’re based in France, which relies heavily on nuclear for electricity generation, helps a lot. Wish other countries had made that choice and stuck to it.
@dschwarz @leckye I contacted them yesterday to move kaomojicool.club they gave me this complementary note about energy consumption, still work in progress : https://pad.deuxfleurs.fr/code/#/2/code/view/svkhEYeqWIb09ygcl8opWDWhvW54yje9WEK70HWdmSk/embed/

@MoritzBrouhaha Mon dieux, c'est si gentil !
@MoritzBrouhaha It's a really cool idea, though I'd argue it's not the DCs themselves that are the problem. Still a wonderful concept!
@MoritzBrouhaha That sounds like such a nice idea! Now I wish I had paid a bit more attention in my French classes in high school and could actually still understand French.

@MoritzBrouhaha
Assez génial !
Je dirais d'une simplicité ambitieuse !
👏 👏 👏
@MoritzBrouhaha I love this. I am such a fool for ascii art. I wish more web content used animated ascii art. It is so clean. I also love that this page loads great on a large screen browser and even better on a mobile screen! (And of course I am biased because they have Japanese 🇯🇵 mixed in 😊).

I've submitted the site to the great Codrops "Collective" weekly newsletter
- and I think they already liked it !

Might be published soon on https://tympanus.net/codrops/collective/

@diarra @bigTanuki I love this newsletter ! Great idea 🙌 !
@MoritzBrouhaha I wouldn't say that they are a company, rather a very tight non for profit, at least at the moment.
And yes, great concept, great site and, at least for the ones I know, great people involved!
@dp indeed ! I have modified the message thanks !
@MoritzBrouhaha Well, not a company but a NGO actually, but yes :)
