Stop posting stuff on #medium, we can't read it.

edit: please stop retooting, the problem is monetization, not medium.

btw after digging a bit it's related to monetization. When you monetize your work, it becomes less accessible.
@aris And here's the thing, even if you create a "free account" with a throwaway email, you just made it easier for them to track you. There's always a cost. :/
@aris if only there were 12ft ladders for those 10ft walls …
@aris hmm. I'll check that. Anyway, as you can get a free medium access, is that really an issue? Is it a moral issue (you don't want to create one)? Or just that you don't find that practical?
@cryptax I checked your blog, I can read it because you didn't request monetization.
It's a moral issue, but at the same time it just means that I won't read the article when it's monetized.
@aris I understand! Thanks for your explanation!

@cryptax @aris It's not free if you have provide personal data

And not every shitty platform should get your data, only it is requested.

@utopify_org @aris I agree, but give me an alternative. I'll consider it :)
@cryptax @utopify_org In my case I host my wordpress on a vps at gandi, but I'm told wordpress pages aren't bad at all. I had good feedback about substack too. Anyway your medium blog is reachable to everyone without registering so I don't think it's a problem.

@aris @cryptax Wordpress is a nightmare.

It was the first blogging software I used on my own server and after almost every update the extensions break and with it the blog.

For me it wasn't usable and I use a static website generator since then.

@cryptax @aris

- Publish your blog articles on macro blogging instances on the fediverse (e.g. Writefreely, Hubzilla, Friendica, Streams). It will be even easy to share it as a user with other fediverse tools, like Mastodon or even comment on it.

- Write as a guest author on non-profit blogs. There are non-profit organizations, who have blogs, which are most likely written by guest authors. In many cases those are high quality articles with a review system.

- host a static website, like https://getpelican.com/ on your own server (like me)

@aris I close the tab immediately. Dead to me.
@aris yeah I think you’re probably right. I’ve been allowing my blog posts to be monetized but it probably isn’t the right approach. I’ll start switching them over to unpaid/free.
@aris
Medium is truly a double edged sword. On the one side, there are great articles which are fun to read. On the other side are super long texts which go on and on and on about super simple topics and you just feel how the author tries hard to sound scientific and serious.
@aris The other day I was trying to read GvR’s PEG Parsing Series Overview which he posted on Medium a few years ago and it clearly says CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 but Medium wouldn’t let me read it without subscribing. Fuck Medium.

@aris @gray As much as I hate suggesting it… If you need an easy and free place to post blog posts for yourself...
