I’m at my first ever Scottish Autism Research Group conference – a hybrid conference, but I’m attending on-line

Relieved to discover that I need neither an app nor an account to use Microsoft Teams – it just didn’t work on my phone

Looking forward to the talks today, which I’ll try to live-post about if I can

Will post further about the conference posters after today’s sessions

We have sound …

Welcome underway

The majority of researchers presenting today are Autistic

#SARG2023 #ActuallyAutistic #AllAutistics #ParticipatoryResearch

Catherine Grainger is about to introduce the first keynote speaker, but just mentioned the hashtag ‘if you’re going to be tweeting about the event’ *sigh*

Hilde Geurts is talking (from Amsterdam) sharing research insights into ‘Autism and wellbeing across adulthood’

#SARG2023

Where we live has an impact on our happiness, with reported happiness on a scale from 0 (or 1?) to 10 ranging from 3.8 (Tanzania) to Denmark (8.2), with the UK sitting at 7.4

#SARG2023

As well as happiness, though, it’s good to look more broadly at psychological wellbeing and quality of life (QoL)

Terminology matters

Method matters

@transponderings @transponderings The macOS Teams used to work for me, but no longer. It seems that MS blocks its use over VPN. It worked fine in the browser as I eventually found out. One feature that didn’t show though was the Q&A. I read that Q&A is not available for some participants when there are ‘too many’ participants and wonder if this is what happened. I’ve deleted the macOS and iOS apps; this is the first time something about Teams felt good!

@panda @transponderings I wasn’t going to install any MS crapware on my MacBook (MS things I‘ve installed in years past have just scatter-bombed my file system with bits and pieces)

So I was also using the browser, which worked ok mostly

It’s the first time I’ve experienced Teams – it was ok (apart from the absence of Q&A and the closed captions being squeezed into the bottom left corner)

@transponderings @transponderings So maybe Q&A was available only to those who were using the app. Or you also were in too many participants. They read some questions they got from the online Q&A so obviously it worked for some. In any case it was good to be able to follow some of the presentations; I wish I hadn’t had to deal with urgent stuff at the same time which was distracting.
