I firmly believe that large vehicles will be powered by overhead lines and be equipped with batteries with capacity enough to get them between the areas with overhead lines and smaller streets and neighbourhoods/industries for deliveries and such.

The only thing I am not sure of is how to handle garbage and recycling collection on smaller residential streets. Possibly dedicated HGV infrastructure for these types of services.

@TransitBiker I made this pitch to some smart transit folks I work with and they made the good point that overhead wires require a lot of visible public infrastructure that NIMBYs and local politics would make pretty difficult to build, so much so that they didn't consider it a super feasible scenario. Doesn't mean it's bad, just that it's far from inevitable.
