Joe Beda

Last Wednesday evening @nova had a climbing accident and died.

All of us that loved her are heart broken and stunned. She was an amazing person that lived out loud and built connection and community wherever she went. She will be horribly missed.

Those closest to her are still working through their grief and figuring out when and how to best memorialize her. In the meantime, please donate to Trans Lifeline or the Transgender Law Center in her honor instead of looking to send flowers.

@jbeda I’m so sorry and sad to see this news. She fought through so much, and had a such a strong voice in the tech community. She loved working in the community and made so many good friends along the way. My heart goes out to her friends and family. Maybe there’s some small peace knowing that she was at least doing what she loved. She probably wouldn’t have it any other way than doing something badass and challenging.

@jbeda Awfully sad and shocking news. So sorry for your loss.

I bumbed into online Kris Nova and Hachyderm community last December on my Christmas holiday, when I found Mastodon. Watched her streams many nights, and followed topics I really could not understand at all. But I instantly liked her passionate take on things and her obvious love for experimenting and doing things together as a community. Her adoration of freedom and deep respect for nature and mountains showed on her talks and voice. And her love for her partner and friends was so fully present in her streams. She seemed to be such a force of nature, free-spirited, strong-willed, and sometimes so harsh towards herself. She's gone way too soon and so suddenly. These kinds of losses are hardest to accept.
Hugs to you all. Take care of each other, in-person and online.

I’ve started following her on twitch very recently, and she was truly inspiring. It was her show and she did what the fuck she wants to do. I miss @nova and I’m heartbroken. I feel so sorry for all her loved ones.
