I’m lucky enough to live one of these areas of eastern England, where #OctopusEnergy and #UKPowerNetworks are running a trial where electricity is free for specific periods of peak renewable generating capacity. We’re in the middle of the first such 2-hour window right now, so we’ve turned everything we can on. We’ve been managing to draw about 18 kW from the grid for the first hour, on top of roughly 2 kW we’re generating from our own solar array.
Final results are in: we managed to pull 34.1 kWh from the grid. Yum yum. To be clear, that’s energy that we would otherwise either have consumed at a less beneficial time, or which we have effectively time-shifted so we can export it at other times instead.
