1. #FontBracket is a single-elimination tournament of 64 fonts/typefaces that use the Latin alphabet. Each match is a poll between 2 fonts. I’ll run each poll on both Mastodon and Bluesky. Matches will start on Sunday, August 20th, 2023.
A PDF bracket showing all 64 matches can be downloaded at this link, or you can copy the image above. https://www.dropbox.com/s/v1k9ftg9l3l6m22/fontbracket.sbarolo.pdf?dl=0

c. Download a bracket (see link above).
d. Fill it out by hand—it makes completing the online form much easier.

3. Any charity that helps alleviate suffering is fine. Don't send me money. The submission form will ask for the name of the charity you gave to (on or after August 12th, 2023).
After the tournament I will post links to the chosen charities of the bracketeers, so that others can donate. I won’t reveal the amount donated.
4. If you can't afford to donate right now, you can still submit a bracket to the official competition.
Hopefully, generous donors will step forward to sponsor your bracket with a $10 (or more) donation to any charity. Please let me know (via Mastodon or Bsky) if you want to sponsor others.
5. How you can help:
Make a donation to your charity of choice and enter the tournament!
Contact me to sponsor entries for those who can’t afford to give to charity right now. Your $10 donation to any charity will sponsor one person’s entry.
5. How you can help (continued):
Pledge to donate to one of the winning bracketeers’ chosen charities! (There’s a question about this on the Google form.) You aren’t obligated to give to any cause you don’t like. You can pledge to one of the top 10 bracketeers’ chosen charities, or to the top-scoring bracket that picks your favorite font as the winner, or to the lowest-scoring bracket—whatever you want. This is a way of multiplying people’s donations.
Five #fontbracket.s have been submitted so far, with 5 different winners predicted. Out of 64 matches in the tournament, all brackets agree on only three of them. Enter your brackets by Saturday
@sbarolo I love how this is going to end up as a serif vs sans serif smackdown
@petnoodle @sbarolo I AM HERE FOR THE SERIFS …uhhh unless it’s an ugly one
@hugeshark @sbarolo I guess this is the wrong crowd for confessing that I actually like Calibri #TeamSansSerif
*all* of the #fontbracket’s submitted so far have picked different winning fonts lol
whoever picked Mrs Eaves to go all the way, I love u
Don’t forget to submit that #FontBracket by tomorrow!! Font polls start on Sunday

@sbarolo hey #neuroscience Mastadon, if you’re looking for something trivial to argue over before faculty meetings or co-first authorship arguments kick into gear this #FontBracket should be right up your alley and raising money for charities.
