Great video from Zack (Jerry Rig Everything) on lithium ion battery recycling. If you know anyone who says that batteries can’t be recycled, send them this. https://youtu.be/s2xrarUWVRQ
What *Really* happens to used Electric Car Batteries? - (you might be surprised)

How are Lithium Batteries Recycled? Today we find out. Whether its Electric Car batteries, cell phone batteries, or tool batteries the process is all the sam...

@mattferrell That will be useful. I'll add that to the "Solar panels are (in 35 years time) hard to recycle", which is also a red herring. If we as a recognisable species are still around in 35 years, it'll be quite the achievement! So batteries, likewise, aren't a big issue either. Indeed, decaying solar and old batteries are likely to be the currency of the future at this rate!
@mattferrell Good to know I have a couple of patio umbrella solar/battery units that were recalled that I will drop off at HD. Apparently battery enthusiasts also pick thru the recycle bins for stuff they can repurpose.
@mattferrell they can be recycled but generally tech #recycling uses weird #chemicals that can be dangerous... or the process it self being dangerous... still we should definitely #recycle tech for the betterment of our planet and keeping tech alive
@mattferrell i see decomposition, but I do NOT see recycling yet.
I do not see how they separate the most toxic stuff (the lithium and cobalt 'black mass') into it's own stuff and then remake stuff with it. I want to see that part before they hype their 'recycling'. This is just partially separated waste. So until I see end products...which they say is 'being developed' this is greenwashing.
@JoBlakely that’s also a solved problem. I made a video a couple of years ago about another company’s walkthrough of how it works: Solving EV's Biggest Problem - Battery Recycling Explained

@mattferrell
i'll take a look. China is making sodium ion batteries for vehicles etc and I think that is where batteries are going.

@mattferrell I had the impression that most EV batteries were repurposed into stationary grid batteries:

The Second-Life of Used EV Batteries

When an electric vehicle (EV) comes off the road, what happens to the vehicle battery? The fate of the lithium ion batteries in electric vehicles is an important question for manufacturers, policy makers, and EV owners alike. The economic potential for battery reuse, or second-life, could help to fu

The Equation
@mattferrell The main question is not can the batteries can be recycled, but how many really are ?
How many phones batteries are just thrown in open field or worst ?
