@xanoquita @JenWojcik they're not divided in the same way as athletics. The number of women in chess is way lower than it should be, just like in STEM fields, and the reasons why are up for debate but imo boil down to cultural issues. Tldr: women who get into chess are way more likely to face harassment. There is no men's league; only an open league and a women's league, which makes it easier for women to get noticed and chase sponsorships, hopefully encouraging more young girls to start playing
