Acorn woodpecker storing acorns
@Jgbird we’ve had this guy coming to our feeder all summer. He’s a cutie.
@Jgbird The Acorn woodpecker was on my list of must sees, that would require travel.
Luckily last year, one few up to Vancouver, Canada for a few weeks.
@Jgbird this hole…it was made for me…!!
@Jgbird Was not aware these existed!
@Jgbird Very cool, but also, something about the appearance of the acorns in the holes gives me the heebie jeebies.
@hosford42 @Jgbird trypophobia, and I've got a mild case too. It's weird.
@malderi @Jgbird Do not ever, I repeat DO NOT EVER look up botflies, then. You will be scarred for life.

@malderi @Jgbird Also, I appreciate you giving me the word for it.

"One 2017 studyTrusted Source found a possible link between trypophobia and major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)."

Makes sense. I have both.

@Jgbird @mpax Whao… I’ve never seen this before. Amazing. Thank you for teaching me something completely new to me. 🤓

@Jgbird

That dude is good at what he does. So very very good.

@Jgbird Best woodpecker banking shot I've ever seen! Excellent 👍🥰
@Jgbird an unwitting friend of squirrels, I’m sure
@stevelaskevitch squirrels seem to have figured out the acorns, but groups of the woodpeckers will defend against them

@Jgbird wow!

The alt text would be better by saying the pecker creates numerous holes in the bark of the tree and that the acorns create a pattern in the tree structure.

@Jgbird that’s amazing! What a clever bird
