This is not seen as hypocrisy by their base, it's seen as a flex, a display of power. They don't have to abide by the same social rules such as consistency; that means they must be stronger. That's part of the image they're selling, and their base craves power, too.

@QasimRashid Fascism is never supposed to have any sort of consistency, with the exception of punishing "the others" who have been deemed as enemies. It is sad that an amplified version of McCarthyism is reemerging in this country.
