An Indiana public library is moving 1300 young adult titles to the adult section--making them unavailable to the readers the books were written for, many of whom need those books to survive their lives.

The library is spending over $300,000 just to deny teens the right to read books written for and about them.

@herhandsmyhands do they not allow kids to check out books from anywhere in the library now? Admittedly my reading habits were never supervised (and look what happened), but I don't remember going into the kids section after I was about 12...

@pretensesoup Many libraries won't allow children (meaning under 18) to check out books from the adult section; they either have to be accompanied by an adult or have an adult to check those books out.

So they're in fact depriving young adults from those books.

@herhandsmyhands wow, that is awful. Holy cow. I don't need my library making that kind of decision for my kids.
@pretensesoup We don't need any strangers making that kind of decision for anyone else's kids, but that's the whole point of the so-called 'moms for liberty' movement: to restrict access for everyone. They started with school libraries, but it was never going to end there.

@pretensesoup @herhandsmyhands

Librarians are victims of the GOP leveraging anachronistic and increasingly freakish sexual hangups to bolster its fading prospects. Here, the GOP has also successfully exploited apathy, laziness and inattention to "unimportant" elections so as to seize control of those making appointments to the library board of trustees, the people calling the shots and telling the library what it must do.

Vote or be screwed.

@herhandsmyhands @pretensesoup wow that's awful

i checked out books from the adult section as a kid and teen and no one ever stopped me

is this a new rule because of the fascism and book bans?
