There seems to be an attitude of "We must punish them". The press was upset that there may be functioning TVs on the barge. A minister ordered a colourful wall painted over lest it may be pleasant for children. It stinks of unpleasant dehumanising.

@m0rjc @CheRosach It's the same attitude here in Ireland. Cram them into a disused hotel in the middle of nowhere and pay a private company to feed them as cheaply as possible. Can't work or move elsewhere. Make them suffer so they hopefully give up and go home.

Unless you're Ukrainian. Then you can get a job and integrate into our society. Can't have white people treated like those other people.
