Mcdonald’s doesn’t start making your order until your phone geolocates in their parking lot. It’s mildly infuriating.

You don’t have to. You can order in the store or get delivery, you can use their app. Or you can spoof geolocation. Or you can go somewhere else or don’t go at all. You dont have to do anything. If you WANT to order with their app, and they use geolocation in a way you don’t like, you CAN change geolocation to fix the thing you don’t like. Or you can bitch about it and not change anything.

We are working in this community with the shared belief that cars are creating a less human environment. I understand that driving is your right, that’s completely okay. I’m going to recommend not driving to places within walking or biking distance, and to avoid idling as much, for a realistic step in the right direction.
Obviously, banning cars altogether isn’t achievable. It is definitely not political. If you’re coming in here with a closed mindset, I’d recommend avoiding engagement with other posts in !fuckcars.

There are plenty of parks where people can walk and cycle, I used to have one near where I lived back when I lived in the suburbs.
Anyway I live far away from a city so walking or riding a bike to places isn’t doable for me (I don’t like doing it either I have aces and pains from too much physical activity, old age does that to you) 4 hours to drive into the nearest town, not even really quite a town either, more like a village. I literally have a cooler in my truck so I can get meat home without it thawing. I think you are very right, this community isn’t really for me, it’s more for city folks who live in downtown close to their local store or park.

If I had money I would, still using my grandfather’s old pickup truck from the 70s. If I could I’d buy a newer car (can’t afford it), though I don’t think there are better ones made these days, all the pickup trucks they make nowadays are supposedly gas guzzlers way more than my old one is (makes sense since they’re much bigger).

Jokes aside, the solution for him is to get a car with better efficiency and to drive less. Maybe make things less political and religious. Yes, fuck cars, but I’ve lived away from everything before, and driving is basically the only solution for commutes, unfortunately. Maybe getting an EV or hybrid would’ve helped the solution.
The solution is not trying to live like a fucking feudal lord on his fucking plantation and expecting everyone else to pay to clean up the mess he makes driving 4 hours 6 times a week just to get fucking groceries.

Delivery and pick up are still both options offered by many coffee shops in walkable cities. In the case of delivery, dense bikeable neighborhoods might actually be faster in terms of food delivery than in a car centric society.

This is so fucked up to be honest. Just looking at the block that the Starbucks is sitting on it could be used much more effectively (if parking and roads were not a priority in north america).
A similar footprint in a european town/city could probably have 3 or 4 low-rise developments on it. We have developers and governments screeming housing crisis and a large city sprawl issue, yet we use space so ineffectively.

It’s such a famous place that it has its own Wikipedia page. About the name, it says:

To rub it in there’s all that free parking and just one parked car. I wonder where the hell are employees park their cars to leave all that space for customers.
The employees might not have money for a car since they get paid a shit wage… which means having to walk through the car infrastructure.
And get berared for being 5 minutes late because the bus was 10 minutes late and its a 45 minute ride to go 12 kilometers.
That might be the employee’s car. I once worked at Dunkin’ Donuts and I was the only person staffing the place and had to do drive thru when it was like this. Also had to help walk-in customers. It was hell.
To be fair, drive-in also exists in Europe and really took a flight during Covid.
DoxinHave one to look at on google maps. Not too different other than the parking spaces being way smaller. Do note the cycle path though, recognizable by the red asphalt. Cycling to this place is super doable, and they have a sit-down dining area if you do.
Note too how this is in an industrial park, if you go north-west a bit you’ll find a residential area which is MUCH less made for cars than the industrial park.
Well, someone has built the US in a way that in many places using the car is the only viable option. That’s why half-blind 80 year olds still drive their own cars.

Some places are drive-thru only after a certain hour or worse don’t even have a dine-in option at all. I remember walking to a fast food joint next to my old apartment one night since it was the only place open and they wouldn’t let me order because I wasn’t in a car.
Interesting note. That is the 2 maggots, where famous artists in the 1930-1960’s would have afternoon coffee and discuss politics, paintings, and everything of the day .
