@_Davidsmith hi! Big fan of pedometer++. Is there a more in-depth article I could read on what “merge data” does vs. iPhone’s step tracking in the “health” app? I’m just curious why the step counts very so much. Usually 2k or so.
@alishah the Health based merging is done with the concept of a “priority device” (as set in the data sources area under steps), if ANY data is available from the priority device then all other sources are ignored. What p++ does is instead combine multiple sources based on which appears to be better measuring your movement. So my value is always higher and can be much higher if your priority device isn’t capturing good data (like a watch when pushing a stroller for example)

@_Davidsmith Ohh, that makes so much sense. So my true step count is P++. If I don’t have merge on does it just use the phones steps only?

Also does it combine the sources in real time and just use whichever is higher or does it check at certain times or something?

@alishah If you don’t merge then p++ will just use the iPhones counts. The merge method uses a moving window where it looks at something like 30 minute chunks and sees which has a higher count and then uses that.

@_Davidsmith makes sense. Thank you again. The app is great and I’ve recommended it to many friends and family members.

It would be cool to have a workout and put a step goal instead of distance (miles).

Idk if it’s just me but I’ve noticed the step count for the iPhone Lock Screen and watch widget never match. I guess they update at different rates.
