I’m thinking of transitioning out of motion design. Or perhaps just out of my niche of explainer videos. Have you ever thought about transitioning out of your chosen career? Did you do it? How did that go? #motionDesign #MotionGraphics #design #designer #designCareer #designChoices #careerPath
@SonjaMGFX I've been "moving out" since last November. I'm studying computer science and web development, keeping an eye open to integrate my design and animation skills somehow. In the meantime I'm still freelancing as a motion designer, but not as much as usual because I need time. My biggest motivation dawned on me during the pandemic, maybe I had too much time to think, but I realised how burned out I was by the advertising industry. I can't wait to be able to apply as a developer somewhere.
@SonjaMGFX by the way, I've been doing mograph since 2009 and I'm 43 years old. Never too late to do what you like!
@mauro I relate to this sooo much! It has dawned on my now that I have dug myself a hole in the advertising industry (I’ve been doing motion design since about 2011) and I want out. Funnily enough, I am also considering the web development/computer science industry 😂 I am hoping to not completely lose animation in my work but I have always been more drawn to programming (I specialise in expressions and Mogrt template dev in my mograph work) than graphic design/making art. Hope it works out 4 us!

@SonjaMGFX yeah, most of my gratification with mograph jobs has always come from the technical challenge, building systems to produce videos and animations basically. I'm not much of an "artsy" person, at least visually. And I like design systems as well.

Give me a shout if you ever need some advise or just emotional support! :D (that's been the hardest part for me so far...)

@mauro I’ll definitely take you up on that. I’m really doubtful about the future of my career at the moment!
