So I just realized I’m in a pretty weird place with Streets 6 right now. I haven’t been playing it outside of locals or events. I think it’s because I’m in a big conundrum and don’t know what I want to do.

I play Modern, and I play Manon. And it’s time to face the music: Manon sucks ass on Modern! She is missing a lot of crucial tools: crMP, stHK, MK Dégagé, and HK Dégagé. Their decision that HCB conflicts with QCB–so you can’t do QCB at all–means M.Manon has no mix on wakeup, and she can’t do meaty setups. stHK lets her safely fish for CH at long range. crMP is the combo staple as well as a reliable poke.

But Modern has been very valuable to me since launch; the games I come from don’t have the input complexity of classic Streets, so I’m able to make meaningful interactions using Modern rather than wasting half of my mental CPU cycles lamenting that I can’t do moves consistently, which is what happens any time I play 2D fighters. We don’t know when or if a balance patch is coming, or if they would even care to adjust Modern movesets as part of that.

Here are my options:

  • Stop playing Modern and start learning Classic. I get access to those tools, and I don’t have to wait for Capcom to mercifully give them to me. This means I have to unlearn everything I’ve learned, start learning anew, and in the interim do worse and be more frustrated.
  • Stay on Modern but pick a different character who loses less tools. Luke? Kimberly? Ken? Haitani took Modern Chun all the way to top 6, so maybe her? But I like Manon. She is very cute!
  • Continue playing Modern Manon, even though her moveset is severely kneecapped, and just hold that. Playing Modern means making trades, but these trades are too severe.
  • Just continue not playing Streets until they fix Modern Manon. I have no shortage of fun games to play.

I don’t know what to do. 😕

If you decide to learn Modern Chun let me know, I just hit Masters with her and can offer advice.

I come from years of SF background but decided to pick up Modern to see what it’s about and I really like it. Chun loses a ton of tools (all of her overheads, consistent punish counters, AA normals) but gains walk forward DP and reaction supers (vs fireball and DI) which I personally find to be worth the trade.

Some characters really lose way too much to be viable - I haven’t looked at Manon but it’s possible M Manon is just not the way (though I’d imagine her level 1 is amazing on one button, depends what the tradeoff is)

Thank you! I’ll keep you in mind. I’m at Gold with M.Manon right now.

It’s interesting that Chun loses so much in the trade, but remains viable because of the value of what she gains. Because Manon loses a similar magnitude of stuff. So maybe I should take another look at what she gains. Let’s see…

  • One-button HP Manège Doré as 5S. Losing 20% on this doesn’t make it less terrifying.
  • MK Rond-Point is a little bit easier to use for AAs as 6S, and OD 6S gives you Renversé after; 2S is the MP version I think, and it connects just fine.
  • LK Dégagé comes out fast as 4S. There’s no crouch to hint that I might be about to do it.
  • 2H+S for Pas de Deux is potentially terrifying. If you do anything on the ground, you explode.
  • You must spend drive to get a fast standing overhead in OD Dégagé, but mashing Auto L makes it a little easier to combo after hitting it.

And what I already know I can work around:

  • stLK as 5L is my DR combo filler instead of crMP. Easier timing going into it, harder timing going out of it, but it still links to bHP/4H.

Arabesque on 5H+S and Étoile on 4H+S are kind of mid just because the supers themselves are kinda mid. Arabesque slips under people like crazy and Étoile doesn’t hit an area much bigger than Rond-Point.
