A family reunion turned up a stash of old photos. The inscription on this? We don't even know what language it is! Anyone out there able to translate?

@rodkessler I'd say cursive Yiddish, but I'd also say it's upside down.
@rodkessler Hebrew, but my super-Jewishly-literate kid says the writing is too old and stylized for them to read. (Gen Z kid can’t read English cursive either.)
@rodkessler oh, so likely Yiddish given age of photo, obvs. Sorry.
@rodkessler It looks like it's upside down on that photo. But maybe tag @histodons and see if any of the history nerds can decipher it!
@rodkessler I'm probably wrong but that looks like Gregg shorthand. Unfortunately I can't read shorthand.
@rodkessler almost certain it's Hebrew lettered cursive, upside down, so it could be Hebrew or Yiddish -- my cursive reading is garbage sadly!
@rodkessler spent some more time eyeballing it with a Hebrew cursive guide... if the first line is cursive for דאס איז מיין then I think this is Yiddish for "this is my..." which seems like a great way to start a caption! But I'm not confident enough to eyeball the massive words on the second line, haha.
@rodkessler @adhdeanasl The photo is upside down, but I’m pretty sure it’s Yiddish (2nd and 3rd words look like “iz mein” — “is my”)
@rodkessler I flipped the photo. It is written Yiddish. The translation is: This is my eldest son. He sends you his "garte" (Regards?) to the Grandpa with the Grandma.
@ViciousBabushka Most grateful to you. Can you suggest how I could get a few other ones translated!

@rodkessler Well you could scan & send them to me. How many do you have?

Maybe there is a #Yiddish group on Mastodon? I am still finding my way around here after deleting my account at the Xplace.

@ViciousBabushka five or ten, I think My cousins have most but I could get them copied as files. My email is [email protected]. Write me so I’ll have yours? Rod
@ViciousBabushka @rodkessler Is there a #Yiddish group on #Mastodon? That would be great.

@kolev @ViciousBabushka @rodkessler

If someone is willing to create one using chirp.social I'd sign up!

@raf @kolev @rodkessler איך י האב ערשט יעצט געמאכט א גרופע אויף צשירפ.שאשיול. יעצט שטייט אין איין ""לאודינג
@raf @kolev I just created a "Yiddish Group" on chirp.social ober er halt in eyn "loading"

@rodkessler Probably Hebrew as everyone else here is saying, but it does look like Shavian!

@rodkessler

If you turn the image upside down, it looks like Hebrew script.

@rodkessler

It might be a German inscription written in Hebrew characters; it doesn't seem to be Yiddish.
