I have seen the light! - Lemmy.ca

Wait, what’s wrong with Jerboa? I’m using Jerboa and it’s been great so far

I’ve been flipping between Jerboa and liftoff. Unless I’m missing something Jerboa doesn’t have the downvote arrow. Not that I ever downvote anyway. But besides that, I think I like the feel of Jerboa better.

Sort options seem better in liftoff though (again, unless I’m missing something in Jerboa).

I’ll probably give infinity a try now because of this post.

Jerboa definitely has a downvoted button lol

Well, I went searching for it again, just to downvote you. 😉 But still can’t find it.

Beats me. 🤷

Amouranth, the Kick streamer, is allegedly brewing beer with her vaginal yeast. It’s an obvious publicity stunt to squeeze more money from her impressionable and “thirsty” audience. Gross-factor aside, is this even possible? Is it analogous to brewer’s yeast? Would this cause undesirable side effects or introduce undesirable compounds?

Aha! That’s good to know. Thanks!
Jerboa doesn’t autoplay gifs (or didn’t when I used it), that what made me stick to takeoff and I don’t regret it.

It kept crashing randomly for me.

I tried all the apps I memed out at some point or another (and we’re all Reddit refugees I presume).

I had frequent stability issues with Jerboa, switched to liftoff, which was far more stable. UI wasn’t the prettiest, but reasonably nice. Gave sync a brief spin, wasn’t very impressed, and ads/data collection wasn’t appealing. I stuck to liftoff till I found infinity had been ported to lemmy.

I’d used infinity for Reddit for years, same experience on Lemmy now, loving it!

I’m still waiting for Boost for Lemmy to come out. Maybe I’ll try Infinity though if it’s a great as you say
Ah, a fellow Boost enjoyer. That was my favorite Reddit app by far.
I’m on the same bandwagon, boost was n1 but infinity n2… So… If they take too long I might give it a go.

it wouldn’t let me post comments
I’m stuck on phase two. Digging it, though.
Jerboa has been criticality underrated since its first or second post-exodus update. I’ve tried almost all of these (and Connect) and other than when .world is having issues but still reachable by Voyager, I use Jerboa.
Depending on who I ask here, Sync is either a caveman brained or enlightened choice.

sync is just a more polished app since it came from reddit. but infinity is the same, and boost will be the same too.

chose the app you like most and support its dev.

(posted from sync)

Still have a faint hope for Relay
For those of us that have used Sync for a long time it has a lot of ui/ux options and we know how to find them.
Don’t forget Connect! It’s probably the most complete Lemmy app right now. The “About Instance” function is amazing for getting a list of communities on a given instance with actual working links for subscribing.
Have a link? Is it open source?
Connect for Lemmy - Apps on Google Play

A native application for browsing the social platform Lemmy and the Fediverse.

It is not open source. Apparently the creator is considering making it open source once he’s cleaned up the code a bit. For whatever that’s worth.
Not open source, I’m out then.
I honestly don’t get the “gotta clean up the code first” stance. Like sure, you don’t want to publish complete spaghetti code without comments. But like, it can’t be that bad right? Besides, the point of open source is collaboration and so he doesn’t have to do all the “clean up” by himself.
Yeah, I totally agree. I suspect that some people use it as an excuse because they don’t actually want to publish the code.

I feel it’s used as a minipulation tactic. \

  • FOSS people don’t want to use closed source software.
  • Lie and say you’ll “consider” open source-ing later even though you have no intention of ever doing so.
  • Profit.

It’s not FOSS but it’s currently free and without ads.

Where is the “About Instance” feature?
  • Tap the three dots overflow menu:
  • Select About Instance:
  • Select View Communities:
  • Thanks. I found that earlier. I tried to edit comment. There’s a feature on my app that says “add user comment”… I thought that equaled an edited comment that indicated 'I found the answer".
I just can’t decide between Sync and Voyager.
Where does Voyager fit into this?
I had an hard time igonring the slight delay at animations when using it on my phone. I’m usually use it on PC though.
    Guess you never tried Thunder
I can’t remember why I skipped thunder, I think it’s because it doesn’t autoplay gifs without opening it
Just tried it. Seems cool, but slightly laggy on my phone. Infinity runs butter smooth!

Tried Jerboa, Sync and Thunder (and Artemis + web app for kbin).

Sync seems the most polished because it came from Reddit, but the fact that you can't post in Sync right now makes it really hard to dig in and dedicate to it.

Thunder feels like a more polished version of Jerboa, but I'm not a huge fan of the Material You design and big iconography in any of these apps (I came from RIF, so I'm used to basically early 2010s UI, lol).

Artemis is unevalautable right now given its severe alpha state.

And of course, lemmy.world is having connection issues, so none of the apps really "work" right now, no fault of their own. At least Thunder seems to cache old data, since it's populated when I open it, versus Sync which can't make a connection.

What do you mean cannot post in Sync? I’m using Sync since day 1 and can post, like this comment
But sync can’t submit new posts yet. Only comments.
oh shit right, this is why it’s still a beta
Just migrated my main account from Lemmy world, not their fault but there’s too many users in that instance, which is causing downtimes too often
Please excuse my maybe stupid question, but did you manage to move your account from lemmy.world to another instance? If so, would you please share how you did that?

You can use Lasim to download your profile settings and subscribed communities from Lemmy.world and then upload to your new account. You need a computer tho, it isn’t a mobile app.

Not stupid, it isn’t straight forward, there’s a python script that helps with transferring subscriptions, posts and comments can’t be transfered though

Try connect, I recommend it highly.
Sync is way too expensive if you want to get rid of ads too. I was considering paying

For what it’s worth, posting from sync should be available this week.

Voyager (now as native app) 👨‍🍳😙👌
Yup, feels like Apollo before 😊
Voyager is nice, but since it’s a native app I can’t download pictures anymore, so I switched to infinity and got used to it…

Yea the only way to do it from Voyagers native app right now is to open the link in your browser. You can hit the share button on Voyager and send the post link to your browser.

I hope they add that feature soon. I imagine we aren’t the only ones who noticed.

Ah man. Infinity just hits different.
Was using infinity on Reddit and was waiting for a good fork for lemmy. Really feels like home now.
Same. Liftoff was/is a great backup though!
Infinity makes me feel like nothing has changed
How many posts on this topics are gonna be, can’t we put this to rest???
