Google aiming to replace notch with under-display camera in Pixel phones - Lemmy.world

A recent patent application [https://worldwide.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/description?CC=EP&NR=4218225A1&KC=A1&FT=D&ND=&date=20230802&DB=&locale=en_EP#] is suggesting that Google is going to replace the notch by an under-display front-facing camera in future Pixel phones. Why? I’ve yet to see one that doesn’t look like shit.

There are some Chinese devices where the camera is pretty much invisible. It doesn’t look like Samsung’s version where you can clearly see the pixels.

That being said, they absolutely destroy camera quality - so either Google is betting on AI to fake face details, or they assume people will use the back cameras more often.

Can we have it under display and not look like shit?
Not really with whats available for consumer grade tech rn
