"Mastodon is far from perfect. But I only have so many hours in the day, and only so many days left in my life. I would much rather spend those precious hours making a open service better than using a temporarily superior closed one. I have seen that movie. I know how it ends."

Hey, so if you're tempted to chime in here with something about the fact that Cory's post is on Medium: Yes, I know. Everyone can see that. Anyone who clicks through can see it's only available to those with (free) accounts.

Many, many people have made this point in my replies already. (If you can't see them, they may be #GhostReplies to you). So save your keystrokes.

If you want to see Cory's responses on this issue, they're here: https://mamot.fr/@pluralistic/110848872407127751

But please leave me out of it.

@design_law @pluralistic too bad it's "member only" ...

(Note: i learned, there is a reason for this)

@design_law @pluralistic i agree with the spirit of this article but Doctorow had to post it on a paywall site.

Medium is more of the same enshitification.

@design_law @pluralistic

I have seen that movie. I know how it ends.Me too.

@design_law @pluralistic

And it's paywalled on Medium. 🤦‍♂️

@design_law @pluralistic can’t read it because it is behind a login screen. Medium has gotten to be bad, to the point that I will ignore links to it. Thanks for the TL;DR, Sarah.
@design_law @pluralistic Not to mention that I feel much more comfortable supporting a platform like Mastadon that *isn't* operated by a billionaire that supports far right grifters!
@design_law @pluralistic Interesting.. as he writes from the locked down Medium platform.

@design_law @pluralistic I can't see switching away from this open service any more. Even in the short time that I have used it, it has improved. And the more I stay, the more people I meet, and the more interesting connections I make, which all make me want to stay more.
@design_law Maybe you should take a look at #Calckey or #Firefish.
These are just like Mastodon, microblogging services and do a lot better than Mastodon.
In Firefish it is even possible to take all your posts with you and import them.
