Re-visiting my generative embroidery project, trying to make it more friendly for converting generated designs to stitch-able patterns. Made a little world map cross-stitch pattern generator as a test case, and I kinda like it!
@codingcrafter That would be a fantastic DnD campaign reference
@codingcrafter What kind of constraints do you need to put in to make it more stitch-able?
@caranha map to available thread colors (I used DMC floss colors), make the image fit common cloth size and hoop sizes, and print a human-readable pattern. If I wanted to get fancy, I’d pay attention to how many colors and how close together they are on the canvas (big jumps are annoying, as are solo stitches)
@codingcrafter This is so rad. Is the project available anywhere?

@codingcrafter Also, can I offer you some alt text for the images? Maybe: the pattern for a cross-stitch of a generated, green-blue, Earth like pattern.

And: a cross-stitch pattern showing a DMC Floss Symbol Chart and other pattern stats.

You could definitely list all the floss colors/numbers, too!

@edward thanks for the alt text!! I thought I’d put it in, but must have mia-clicked somewhere (I managed to get it on bluesky…) I’ll see if I can edit the post with it :)
@edward it will be soon! will post when it’s in a more shareable state
