On 6 August 1991, Tim Berners-Lee wrote to a newsgroup: "The WWW project merges the techniques of information retrieval and hypertext to make an easy but powerful global information system."
He noted "Try it" and the world was changed.
Thanks Tim!

@w3c Less and less convinced this was such a great thing.

@antiaall3s @w3c

IMHO it is, and has actually saved and preserved many lives... but there's lots of malignantly selfish, deafeningly loud, well-financed, and persistent dumbfks out there.

@artisanrox For me the balance has been in the process of tilting for years.
@antiaall3s Sooo, "Thanks Tim" said in "Thanks Obama" fashion right? 😅
@w3c “Global misinformation system” amirite?
@w3c forever my hero!!!🥰🥰🥰
@w3c yeah, thanks a lot, Tim
@darwinwoodka @w3c Somehow I can hear Al saying: "I don't think so Tim"! UUHHHhhhh! 🤣

@w3c

Been there since the beginning and yes it changed our world... democratized and majorly simplified access to information, made logistics easier and online commerce possible and the world a trading place. With social media, it made the world a village. But also made possible new ways of manipulating masses and spread lies and fake news... not all is well... the combination with AI and online surveillance yet another challenge. Yes, the world has changed...

@w3c And few years ago he regretted his invention, when he saw all that mess people and corpos have done with and to it.
@w3c Designed my first Web page in 1994 with HTML 1.0 for Mosaic browser.
@w3c I wonder if WWW will ever catch up with Gopher...
