Are there any plans to implement a native video player for YouTube videos? - Lemmy.world

I was just wondering if there’s any plans down the road to enables watching yt videos directly in the lemmy app (I know Apollo had this feature). I think that would be a huge quality of life improvement for video-centric communities, especially if avoids all the ads on mobile youtube. Either way, thank you devs for your amazing work so far! I love Memmy. Feels almost obligatory to add this :)

As an Apollo user I can tell you towards the end (last 12 months) YouTube didn’t work more often than not and you had to click through to view in the in-app browser.

Huh. It seemed to work fine till the end for me, except sometimes I had to tap twice for the video to play.

No plans currently. Someone is working on a video player for us, but it’s super hard to get working well.

TBH I think a YT player should be last priority. A lot more needs to improve before using resources on something that’s at the fickle will if Google to break.
