They are only talking about the amount of carbon that trees can capture and that older trees are most efficient, so it'll take years. So it's a 'time' problem.
However, what they don't consider, is the huge difference in air temperature when land is forest vs farmed, especially harvested and bare. It's enormous, as any glider pilot, Montgolfier pilot can tell you.
Basically, we need both. Trees + leave the carbon in the ground.
@gwagner there was (is?) an ongoing project between canada and china to reforest clearcut areas in china and it was, actually, making a measurable difference. it's not just decarbonization, there is temperature control, higher participation in carbon cycle, biomass, sandstorm reduction, habitat, etc
just google "canada china reforestation program" for this information
What MAKES A DIFFERENCE is ending the burning of carbon fuels, fossil fuels. OIL, COAL AND GAS.
Canada has 179 billion barrels of oil, 10 billion tons.
36 billion tons of CO2, and Canada is pushing it like a street hood with crack.
Promising to plant trees, is like a street hood also carrying band-aids.
CBCNews promotes the burning of oil. Billions of tons.
