No Megan Rapinoe slander will be tolerated. None, you hear me? Rapinoe was the first white football player to support Colin Kaepernick. Soccer is football.

I'm scared of France, Netherlands, and England. The US didn't get much worse. Everyone else has gotten a lot better.

The "I'm a Fox watcher that can't name 3 players in the US Women's Nation Team" to "I'm now an expert on women's soccer, and make more misogynistic comments about the USWNT than Alexi Lalas" pipeline is always in full effect.

Everyone mad that the USWNT was dancing before the game? Just be quiet. Everyone gets ready for competition in different ways.

One of the purest moments in sports history was Diego Maradonna dancing with a ball before a game. His childlike joy was undeniable. The sheer skill with which he played with and danced with the ball, let everyone else know that this boy is not normal.

But when girls do it, it's bad?

I'm disappointed in Carli Lloyd too. She should know better.

As I've said before, every powerlifting competition I've ever won, I wore a Rapinoe merch shirt.♥️👍🏿

Rapinoe is *extremely* popular among Black men basketball and football players. She's an athlete's athlete. She's a fierce competitor, a leader, and speaks up for us. Respect*.

And the USWNT is the most dominant international sports team in world history. Once you get past your sexism and US sports centrism, you can accept this fact.

(And she didn't try to sell poor Black people crypto!)

@mekkaokereke Rapinoe is awesome but that game was a stinker. USWNT was an inch a way from going out in the group round when that last Portugal shot went off the post.
@brianvastag @mekkaokereke I love the USWNT, but I gotta admit I would have been amazed and happy if Portugal had pulled off that upset. I hope that women’s futbol there gets absolutely *huge*.

@brianvastag

Oh come now, don't exaggerate! We were at least 2 or 3 inches from being eliminated! 🤡

@mekkaokereke getting to watch her and Kim Little play for our local NWSL team was a God. Damn. Privilege. :)
@mekkaokereke @nothe We didn’t have a local team back in 2015. I picked Seattle because of Pinoe and Solo. Was delighted to learn about Little, Fishlock, Barnes, Corsie, and Harvey. That team was so fun to watch.
@sprsquish @mekkaokereke I was one of the folks with first season tix, and vividly remember that 10 game winless streak to start… the turnaround and success following it were SO GOOD :D
@nothe @mekkaokereke I legit read this as Li'l Kim and I was like WHAT. Li'l Kim played in a fundraiser game in Seattle???

@nothe @mekkaokereke If the Reign doesn't have Ladies Night banging on the PA during warm-ups, what are they even doing?

@mekkaokereke > And the USWNT is the most dominant international sports team in world history.

The New Zealand All Blacks would like to have a word ;)

@midtempo

Nope!

I know a little bit about rugby and the All-Blacks. I was co-captain of my college team, and took them to the national championship. I played semi-pro rugby for the Riverside Killer Bees: 2X national 7s champs, undefeated league champs, and national championship quarter finalist. 7 of my teammates were Fijian national team players, 3 US national team players, and our coach was an All-Black https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Jennings_(rugby_union)

The USWNT has won 50% of all women's world cups. More dominant.

Arthur Jennings (rugby union) - Wikipedia

@midtempo I was (overly?) obsessed with rugby for much of my life. I played college football, and don't even like football.🤷🏿‍♂️ I was a rugby player in (unnecessary) pads. My shoulder pads are built in.

And my favorite team is the All-Blacks.

They've won 3 rugby world cups, and 33% of the world cup tournaments played, which is impressive! But... it's not as impressive as 4 world cups, and 50% of the world cup tournaments played.

USWNT is more dominant.

I was going to ask you for a reference for that "most dominant" statement, because I figured it would be nebulous or difficult to quantify... but finding online references was surprisingly easy ;)
@mekkaokereke
We lost to them in the World Cup and I was gutted but I was also ok with it. Rapinoe is is a legend!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

@mekkaokereke the Thundercats inspired Nike ad they did for her (“Let it Rip!”) is sick. I don’t recall a women’s World Cup where the big brands exerted this kind of marketing effort (ad spend and production talent).

@adambkaplan @mekkaokereke thundercats? Or silverhawks? 🤔

(I watched both obsessively as a kid but have not seen either in 30 years. But… there were far more hawks than cats in that advert.)

@lkanies @mekkaokereke I am too young to have watched Silverhawks during its first airing. I got plenty of Thundercats reruns from Cartoon Network - TIL they were both produced by the same animation studio!

@adambkaplan @mekkaokereke that does not surprise me.

I tried to watch Silverhawks again in my 20s or 30s and man, it did not stand up

@mekkaokereke I'm enjoying the deafening silence from the "if women athletes want the same pay as male athletes, they should play just as well and attract larger crowds" gang.
@mekkaokereke I agree with pretty much everything you said except the most dominant team part, I reserve that still, and I'm still pretty sure it's statistically true that the New Zealand All Blacks for rugby are still the reigning champs of that claim. Last I checked over a century they've got something like a near 80% percent win rate, and over the last decade it's something like 95%. The USWNT ain't quite there yet, but they are definitely a contender.

@zeruch

Nope.

https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/110816516599127870

Don't just look at overall win rate, because the All Blacks rack up a lot of wins against teams that barely have a national team. Beating Barbados 83-0 doesn't count for much. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Look at world cups instead. That way we're comparing the All-Blacks against the second third fourth and fifth best teams in the world. How did they do against England, France, Australia, South Africa, Argentina. And we're comparing the USWNT against Brazil, Argentina, France etc

@zeruch

When the All Blacks have won 50% of all rugby world cups, they will approach the level of dominance of the USWNT.

Till then, the All Blacks are in a very respectable second place. Not bad!
