@Linzington the Quakers are a good lot, threw their weight behind equal marriage at the time as well. Got a couple of Quaker friends and they're amazing allies.
@tattie @Linzington quakers do seem to be on the right side of history more often than not. i like to think it might be because a core practice of their faith is to sit quietly in a room together and *think*.
@Linzington I have only ever heard "based af" things about the Quakers (in the limited context of American history anyhoo). So this checks out. 🤗
@Linzington this *is* great but surely it is baseline decency? The fact that there are faiths that qualify this with “but…” or, worse, deny it entirely is a disgrace to them
@Linzington Historically the Quakers have been right time and again, often providing a valuable counter-example to "everyone thought X back then" type arguments.
@Linzington It's so nice to hear GOOD news out of the UK for once.
@Linzington Sheffield Quaker House hosted a Julie Bindel talk a few years ago, we shall see
@Linzington quakers are a good lot
@Linzington @gulovsen Quakers have a long history of putting actions behind their beliefs as tireless champions of human & civil rights — Underground Railroad, women's suffrage, fighting Jim Crow laws, anti-death penalty, gay rights...
@Linzington Equality is one of the Quaker testimonies, it's why Quakers have stood for women's rights, anti slavery, etc.

@Linzington

I used to work with Sandra Berry before she became the Director of Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre and, based on the conversations we used to have, I would have been very surprised if the Quakers had not taken this position.

@Linzington I love being a Quaker -abc one of our faults is that we can indeed make it our whole personality….
