This is how you sign "Mastodon" in Finnish sign language. Kudos to my deaf wife @mustikkasoppa ❤️ #SignLanguage #FinnishSignLanguage #Viittomakieli

Btw this same post got 4 likes on X/Twitter. Amazing. #Twitter #X

So happy with the alt-text because without it I thought she was imitating a boxer instead of stroking imaginary tusks. Just proof that alt-text is also valuable for those with functional eyes (not sure if this is the correct way to say it?)

Thanks!

@DevWouter Glad you found it helpful! It was surprisingly hard do describe it so that one would understand what it is all about. Used the word "fangs" but I guess you get the point it's the tusks.  @mustikkasoppa

@rolle @mustikkasoppa

Didn’t even notice the use of “fangs” 🤭

@DevWouter I had to change it now and notify hundreds of users  @mustikkasoppa
@rolle @DevWouter @mustikkasoppa if I'd ⭐d it before you edited, I would have been notified that you edited it, because I have set notify=on for edited toots. Just fyi :-)
@DevWouter @rolle @mustikkasoppa When I look at sign language, I like to understand the "gesture "/movement that is being done to express a particular word. Some words in sign language have a gesture that's very literal. Others do not. So, the alt tag on this video helped me
@rolle @mustikkasoppa just a curiosity, how would "firefish" to be signed?

@AlderForrest

"tuli" + "kala", ehkä @mustikkasoppa voi lähettää tuosta videon?

@AlderForrest

Suomalaisella viittomakielellä ainakin nämä kaksi viittomaa viitotaan putkeen:

@rolle @mustikkasoppa Thanks for this. Although I misread "deaf" as "dead" and re-read it like four times before I understood. I was about to offer condolences!

@reflex

Hey! Where is my ⚰️? 😂

@rolle

@mustikkasoppa @rolle I'm just thankful you are alive at this point!
@reflex Awww omg, shouldn't laugh...  @mustikkasoppa
@rolle @mustikkasoppa I know it shouldn't have but it did crack me up when I realized just how badly I need to get computer glasses at this point...
@mustikkasoppa @reflex @rolle can you imagine if you actually said "dead wife?," Like is that a gentle way of saying they passed away?" 🤔🤣
@DiamondGlitter @mustikkasoppa @rolle No kidding! I was trying to figure out if there some some form of European etiquette about the deceased I hadn't run into yet!
@reflex @mustikkasoppa @rolle Just say "I have a dead wife." Be honest and upfront! 🤔🤣
@reflex @DiamondGlitter @mustikkasoppa @rolle There is no such thing as European etiquette about anything. Especially not about the deceased. Europe is a very diverse continent.
😉

@kallekn @DiamondGlitter @mustikkasoppa @rolle I know, I was just pushing back playfully. I've been learning Portuguese etiquette sometimes the hard way since I moved there a couple years ago. Some things seem fairly pan-European and some are very country specific.

One commonality I've noted is that virtually all of the former colonial powers believe they were the "good colonizers" which is....a take.

@reflex @DiamondGlitter @mustikkasoppa @rolle Like Russia does... Except they don't even accept they were and are a colonial power.
@kallekn @reflex @mustikkasoppa @rolle Russians are proud of the way they invaded Ukraine, just like all the other bloodthirsty and greedy countries and you can quote me on it!💯☝🏻
@DiamondGlitter @kallekn @mustikkasoppa @rolle Some are and some are not. It's difficult for me to blame them, they've had 24 years of heavy propaganda as have the Chinese. Authoritarian media environments are difficult for me to blame the people for.
@reflex @kallekn @mustikkasoppa @rolle Yeah that's the definition of indoctrination. They are oblivious to the f***ery that Trump is doing: they conveniently dismiss it. They're fully radicalized. It's almost like blaming German people for Hitler's Holocaust! Not to that extreme but there are striking similarities and parallels.

@kallekn @DiamondGlitter @mustikkasoppa @rolle Nor does China.

But I have zero experience locally so I can't speak to the average Russian citizen. I have more experience in China, where I've spent significant time (plus my wife is Chinese). My greatest amount of experience though is the US and EU, and I speak most about them because of that. I wasn't going to get super serious about my observations in this thread, but I can if that's where those who started it wish it to go. ;)

@rolle @mustikkasoppa Would love to know if she’ll share some of the Fountain of Youth water she’s obviously found.
@rolle @mustikkasoppa why do I hear mastodon whenn she does it ??
@pfannkuchen Because she's mouthing it! Mouthing is a very important part of the language. @mustikkasoppa

@rolle
That is so cool. The movement of the hands into the fists is really visually pleasing.

@rolle @mustikkasoppa
they 👇 would *immediately* understand (mammuts from the rouffignac cave, dordogne, france).
