Unfortunately it didn't say of what the prototype was.
Judging from the keyboard it's either ST, TT or Falcon related.

Edit: It says Mega ST on the board.
@RetroWizzard There must be more to that. First 1989 - the Mega ST was already on the market in 1987. Second, that board has the backplate of the retail case, which does not make sense for a prototype. It also looks to be a later rev. than my Mega ST 2 (which is one of the very first).
I assume what we see here is a prototype of the Mega STE using the same pcb design as the original Mega ST.
btw, what kind of museum gives so little info about their exhibits?
@me_ @RetroWizzard "just in a 19" rack" seems unlikely. Too many botches and other odd mods for that. Might by a dev system, however.
Or maybe modified for a very special use we can't get from the picture. There is hardware below the mainboard, which you can see by the cable that connects to "something" below.
