Honestly I think men can and should post things about feminism *specifically to other men* . Especially since it's likely to go further.
When white people say to other white people: "Black lives matter to me personally and I think we should do more for racial equality" the reality is it does make more of an impact than if that white person hears the same thing on tv from some Black activist or from their one Black acquaintance.
We don't have to -like- that our privileges open more doors, but we can use the privileges we do have to open them for good.
Dudes can just start with: "Guys, I'm talking to you about this:" and then say "We shouldn't expect medals…"
@RickiTarr right? Why is treating women as lesser the non-controversial stance?!
I think it’s people that have an issue with not being greater than the other group that turn it into a controversial issue.
Applies to gender, race, sexuality, the list goes on!
Not even for being the feminest?
I teach computer science at a university. Our department has an unusually large percentage of women as majors. It's about 30%. When I mention that, some people say, "That's a shame. Computers are the perfect profession for a woman to go into."
To which I always respond, "You're so right! Because any job she wants to do is the perfect profession for a woman to go into."
@RickiTarr I think a big part of it is that some people think women are *already* being treated fairly, therefore anyone who still cares about feminism is a weird extremist
But, like, that is objectively false, there tons of ways in which women are being discriminated against, so it still doesn’t make sense
Ok, but I'm a Princess Leia feminist: She did everything the boys did and stood up to Vader while being tortured. (Though she also kissed her brother...)
It's 3rd and 4th wave feminism where they lose me.
In fact, all "punish the people of the present for the sins of the past" movements lose me. My grandfather was railroaded by Woodrow Wilson and had to spend 5 years in Leavenworth for sedition. Doesn't mean I deserve anything.
Yep, gender roles that are enforced to represent classes and the hierarchy of people.
