You shouldn't getting a medal for being a feminist. Everyone should be a feminist, and it should be non-controversial, because it just means treating women as if the were people because they actually are people.
I have to make a confession here, @theropologist actually said this to me in a conversation and I told him to Beige it, but he said it wasn't a man's place to explain feminism, so I posted it, because I thought it was pretty dope, and he's a cool rooster.
@RickiTarr@theropologist I would love it if men talked about feminism (favorably, of course). They rarely do, leading me to conclude that they don’t care. (OTOH, women also rarely do, which is distressing.)
@carrickdb@RickiTarr I think people have made a lot of straw men out of feminism that have more to do with whatever personal axes they have to grind than what feminism actually is. To me feminism is an extension of humanism. To be anti-feminist is to say that the humanity of a certain group of people is conditional. That is an untenable position and should not be acceptable in rational debate.
