Elon Musk didn’t just take @x from its original user for @Twitter

he also took the @xai username for his new AI company, xAI

the Japanese user who first registered @xai tells me he never heard from the company. his @ handle was just switched to @xai_ https://mashable.com/article/xai-twitter-handle-elon-musk-x

Not just @x: Elon Musk also took @xAI from its original user

A pattern is emerging.

@MattBinder why the fuck would you even sign up for a unique username at all, then? just give me a bunch of random fucking words at that point like a homestuck character username
@MattBinder lol you tagged some unrelated accounts on mastodon dot social

@MattBinder

really interesting point here. musk interfered w/ twitter to help his other venture, xAI. If I thought Twitter SH's were likely to complain about anything, I'd say they have a good argument that this was an interested transaction that damaged Twitter for the benefit of xAI

@MattBinder Our digital life can always be taken from us by the whims of billionaires.
@MattBinder I’m surprised that the username xai_ was still available
@MattBinder Way to respect your users. They just don't care. As a general rule in life, those are people to steer clear of.

@MattBinder @x @xai

Benevolently dictate much, Elong?

"Ain't no such thing as a benevolent dictator."

@MattBinder @x @xai unfortunately I don't think anybody is owed a specific social media handle

@MattBinder @x @xai Using XAI already was crappy as that term is used for “eXplainable AI”. XAI is super important in addressing bias in models.
