Please rename this community or change the subject - Feddit

This is another example of US centrism. This is [email protected]. From the name there is no indication that this wouldn’t be about world politics. Please rename the community or change the subject to world politics and create a community like [email protected].

Why don’t you go start a different community if you don’t like this one rather than complain about it? I don’t think it’s fair to tie the location or domain of the instance to your argument. Communities should be hosted on whatever instance they want with whatever content they want.

Communities should be hosted on whatever instance they want with whatever content they want.

Well, not literally “whatever they want”. There are community guidelines to consider.

In this case, the problem is not the content but the name. If the title of the community is [email protected] but it has a rule where only US politics is allowed, then someone done fucked up somewhere.

Not really. Not all the rules can possibly be spelled out or gleaned from the title of a community. You have to check out the community, read the rules, and then determine if you are interested in participating. Reddit was no different.

It’s a pretty basic screw-up to call your community “politics” when you only allow US Politics.

It was dumb on Reddit and it is dumb here on Lemmy too, especially since Lemmy is less US-centric than Reddit to begin with.

Great. Go make your own community then. I don’t understand the point of complaining about a corner of the Internet that nobody is forcing or asking you to interact with.

If this were a modest community on a small instance somewhere, you would have a point.

However, [email protected] is by far the largest general politics community across the entire platform - in essence, it’s the default politics community that thousands of Lemmy users will encounter users will encounter.

It’s not too much to ask that they allow the content that the name advertizes, i.e politics in general, not just US politics.

It’s not too much because one community is no different from the rest. You didn’t like the sub on Reddit and you don’t like it here. No problem. Just don’t participate or start your own community.

Not all the rules can possibly be spelled out or gleaned from the title of a community.

Is your argument that it’s too hard to add two letters to the name of a community to make it clear what the subject is? [email protected] is too hard? Really?

Also, this would allow for a [email protected] to exist, that is actually about politics in general.

The current situation would be like a supermarket that’s called “General foods” and the only thing they offer is apples. If you only sell apples, that’s fine, but then call the damn store “Apples only”.

No, your argument is that it’s not hard to add two letters. My argument is that it’s not your business if you don’t like it. This whole post is silly. Just don’t participate or find a community more aligned with your interests rather than trying to coerce something out of this community. This is the Internet. Somebody made a community and you don’t like the name. Who gives a crap? Just move on to somewhere else.
Well, if you don’t like my post, then read another one. You reading this post is silly. It’s the internet, just move on to somewhere else.
Bravo. Now I’ve been totally owned by my own argument. I don’t know how you did it. So clever of you.
Your original argument is pretty useless, so I just mirrored the nonsense.
It’s useless to you it would seem. Either way this community isn’t for you it seems so enjoy fucking off.
Seems like someone can't handle discussion or argument. it is as he said though, if it bothers you that much then don't read it. I've got to wonder why you are so reactive to the idea of changing the name. What downside is there? Because the site is going to reflect it's non-US centric nature which is more in line with its user base?
Discussion and argument as it relates to US Politics is the point of the sub. You and others coming to complain about the basic rules for the community are not so welcome in my eyes. If you don’t like the rules the simply don’t participate or take it up with the mods privately.
