What are some useful links everyone should know? - Lemmy.world

I’ll start with one of the most useful singular list of lists on the internet. https://github.com/topics/awesome [https://github.com/topics/awesome] “An awesome list is a list of awesome things curated by the community. There are awesome lists about everything from CLI applications to fantasy books. The main repository serves as a curated list of awesome lists.” Just about anything you can think of is within this list. Enjoy! PS: Thank you mods for your work moderating submissions. The quality and relevance of posts here is refreshing. This has to be my favorite community on Lemmy.

What the Fuck Should I Make For Dinner

What the fuck should you make for dinner? We will provide your indecisive self with some ideas.

It's what's for fucking dinner.

MAKE SOME FUCKING MEATLOAF

briliant

You may have just saved my marriage with this one 😄
This is brilliant, but the inclusion of “I don’t fucking like that” means that I will, quite unfortunately, still not be making dinner.
I just spent over 45 seconds hitting “I don’t fucking like that” and realized my brain just wasn’t compatible with the website
That’s exactly what did, hahaha.
This is the greatest website I’ve seen since zombo.com

How to glue this to that

Ah not really a link, but a request. I used to know a website where you could look at an apple product line and see when it was due for a refresh so that you could make a decision to wait or buy used. I bloody can't remember the site and Google searches are pointless for any keywords like apple refresh and product. The site was not "the verge".
This sounds like the MacRumors buyer’s guide. It lists an advisory for whether to buy or not and gives time since product release as well as average time between releases.
MacRumors Buyer's Guide: Know When to Buy iPhone, Mac, iPad

This page provides a product summary for each Apple model. The intent is to provide our best recommendations regarding current product cycles, and to provide a summary of currently available rumors for each model. This page is based on rumors and speculation and we provide no guarantee to its accuracy.

Thank you kindly!

Why be in a comma when you could be in a colon?

For Android phones, the list of best FLOSS apps available from F-Droid:

The ultimate F-Droid setup (300+ Apps) -- on alternativeto.net - Lemmy.world

If you are new to Fdroid or are looking for the best app recommendations, this is the best overview list of available Fdroid apps that I’ve found(made by justarandom). The list is huge and can be daunting. My quick recs and my most used apps are: Jerboa, Simple dialer, QKSMS, Fennec Browser, NewPipe, QuickWeather, OSMAnd, Material Files, Simple Gallery, Vanilla Music, VLC, Alarm Klock and XMouse. Games: lichess, gurgle and sgt-puzzles

what does the L stand for?
Gonna guess Libre ? I think it’s French for freedom or something. CBF looking it up. I’m currently sleeping.

Yes, libre in French or Spanish means ‘free, not imprisoned’.

Honestly, alternativeto.net alone is probably worthy of being an answer to this question. That is an extremely useful website.
Cool, I’ll give the rest a look. I also use osalt.com to find similar programs or apps.

osalt.com helps recommend a open source software alternative or replacement for commercial products and even shareware. Remember that open source software is also a freeware alternative.

Passmark

I use this Android benchmark website whenever a sibling asks me, “what phone should I get?”

It’s not a precise comparison. (In fact, it rates different carrier software running the same LG G710 phone hardware as anything from 7,000 to 8,000.) And it reminds you of its imprecision several times.

But some phones made today benchmark like they’re seven years old. And the site helps you avoid those egregious cases.

AlternativeTo.net

The name is pretty self-explanatory, but even if you don’t know the exact program you’re looking for, the search tool can find you programs based on a description like, “photo editor” or “markdown editor.”

It’s one of the first places I go when looking for software. Especially open source software.

I’ve made a few thousand dollars on some of the paid survey apps. That’s useful to me! It’s tedious as can be but Qmee, Attapoll, Survey Spin, and Leger opinion have paid me about 3K in the last year and a half. I have bought myself many pairs of shoes and two new coats and a ton of other stuff.
