Just an FYI should anyone here use Cafepress. They have updated their ToCs to explicitly state they will use your content for training AI models.

@smilingdemon Cafepress is horrible in other ways, too. I bought something from them once. The email address that I only used for CafePress gets tons and tons of spam.
@smilingdemon interesting. Also, I had no idea they were still around.
@smilingdemon That is the first time in a looooong time I've heard of Cafepress.
@smilingdemon They're scumbags, always have been, and I am amazed they're still around after all this time. I used them for a little while around 2010-2012 but had a falling out.
@jlroberson so I keep hearing. I have never used them myself, but was just a name I recongnised when I saw it, so thought that maybe there would be some out there who did and were not aware :)
@smilingdemon They decided to censor my work after allowing it up for two years and I pulled everything. That was the first of many such encounters I've had with similar services, but they were rudest about it. That was back when you could still publish physical comics(and merch) through them--I dunno if that's still the case.
I use Society6 as my merch maker now
@smilingdemon, you are willing to grant CafePress "a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty free, fully paid-up, transferable, sublicensable, perpetual, irrevocable license to reproduce, distribute copies of, prepare derivative works based upon, publicly perform, publicly display, ..., and otherwise use and exploit Your Content" but you draw the line at "train artificial intelligence on"? Why is that?
@MarkSteger I don't use CafePress for anything so no not really. But the "for the purposes of providing the service" part is what nominally puts a limit on what they can actually use it for (i.e. they can create mockups for advertising using whatever you have submitted). Nominally this also should cover the AI part, but given that AI companies have without fail been using datasets outside of any permissions they do have, this seems particularly untrustworthy.
