We used to only hear this “slavery benefitted black people” racist horseshit from the farthest of the far right.

Now it’s mainstream Republican politics.

@Green_Footballs Exactly. Next up: Was that Hitler guy really so bad?
@Green_Footballs That depends. I grew up in the segregated South, and I heard that BS a lot, although thank goodness, not from everybody.
@Green_Footballs The stupidity is spreading like cancer through the party.
@Green_Footballs Yep. This extreme degree of racism is truly horrifying.

@Green_Footballs Mainstream Republicans, aka the farthest of the far right.

There is no left in US politics, just right and righter.

@Green_Footballs

I'm already hearing rumblings from so called evangelicals that are really fundamentalists that "The Bible doesn't think slavery is so bad, so why do we? Maybe we should give it another try."

@Green_Footballs @lisamelton When I was a Sysop on GEnie in the 80s/90s I remember a racist telling a Black person that he should be grateful that his ancestors were slaves and made Christians.
@Green_Footballs Unfortunately that's not true. The high school textbooks in north Texas in the late 1980s told us how the slaves' lives weren't all bad, with little artist's renditions of cozy slave bungalows. No subtlety - just straight up lies in public school. That shit was everywhere, unquestioned, right there in the standard curriculum

@Green_Footballs Florida SUCKS!!!!

Stay away. We want to move. My poor kids hate it.
