I'm not even sure I have the words for this — actress Beauty Gonzalez proudly wore a necklace made of ancient funerary gold. Eye and mouth covers. From the Philippine south. Actual archaeological pieces. Do they want to explain how these pieces came to be in the possession of a random jeweler? Do they really not see any issue with turning funerary gold into this? I've included a photo of similar funerary ornaments for reference.

@agasramirez @cendawanita Indiana Jones meets Cruella DeVille

(Edit: just to be clear, Jones is *not* a hero in this context)

@gorfram
It's truly disrespectful!
@agasramirez

@cendawanita @agasramirez
- theft from the dead
- theft from the ancient dead
- theft of archeological treasures
- expatriation of archeological treasures from their country/culture of origin
- vandalism
- execrably bad taste

I’m trying to remember some of the ghost stories I’ve heard about what terrible evil befalls those stealing the pennies from the eyes of the dead.

@gorfram @cendawanita I'm still thinking about this so many hours later -- and the fact that she's so proud of it.
@agasramirez
She's clearly not been raised superstitious enough at least, especially as sense seems to be lacking
@gorfram
@cendawanita @gorfram beyond superstition (which really gave me pause because grave desecration does not bother her AT ALL???) she doesn't seem to understand that this raises so many questions about her values/ ethics, her husband's work (a millionaire art curator...), and possible ties to the antiques black market.

@agasramirez @cendawanita Her husband’s a big-time art collector?
So she’s essentially making herself a walking billboard for the family grave-robbing business.

Okay, this is making me genuinely queasy now. 🤢

@agasramirez Oh my. I'm also speechless about this. 😨
@agasramirez that's like wearing an actual mummy mask to the Met Gala. Pretty ignorant of the jeweler.
