A REMINDER, JUST IN CASE IT SLIPPED YOUR MIND: #BlackMastodon #Mastodon #BlackPeople #Enslavement
@popcornreel Example from the records of one of my white ancestors. A benefit this woman (Vilet) got from being a slave was popping out a new slave baby every 14 months or so. I wonder if she was allowed to keep them. What skills did she learn that benefitted her personally? #Slavery #BenefitsOfSlavery #Livestock

@PeggyStuart @popcornreel Best-attempt transcription into modern English:
Rindey, a negro girl, daughter of Vilet, was born November 27th 1810.
Viney, a negro girl, daughter of the above, was born April 4th 1812.
Charles, a negro boy, son of the above, was born August 4th 1813.
Robert, a negro boy, son of the above, was born December 24th 1814.
Henry, a negro boy, son of the above, was born February 18th 1816.
Nancy, a negro girl, daughter of Mary, was born April 14th 1817, and Mary departed this life the 15th of the same month.

[Outside of the transcription, I knew that horror stories like this came with American slavery, but it doesn't make reading them any easier.]

@PeggyStuart @popcornreel horrifying to see human beings written about like that, such casual evil 🤢
