And so the fun begins.

Elon Musk ditched the globally recognized Twitter brand and instead now calls his social media platform "X".

However, having fired most of his employees, no one at Twitter thought of checking with the US Patent and Trademark Office — and X is indeed a brand name owned by none other than Musk's personal archenemy Microsoft.

There is not enough popcorn in the world for the entertainment which is about to unfold.

Trademark Status & Document Retrieval

@randahl

Comcast (Xfinity)

@Ultraverified @randahl @Scott1984FP
I'm finding it funny Twitter and Xfinity use the button in the upper right, for closing a program, as their logos
@randahl
Renewed six days ago. That's quite the coincidence.
@randahl Sorry. Nothing to see here. Musk spells it (X)‘iiiiytsiyew[insert anything here].What a brilliant, quirky sociopath.
@randahl 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@randahl

Ah because of Xbox. Of course. This is hilarious.

@aeu @randahl Maybe he can borrow this logo from Roger Waters?
@randahl I thought apple owned it.
How did musk make all that money? Has to be insider trading. You don’t have to be smart to exploit that
@Spiderlegs @randahl Having a Dad who owned a sapphire mine probably helped.
@randahl Mark Zuckerberg's Meta already appears to have a trademark for an "X" logo: https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-holds-rights-to-x-twitter-rebrand-elon-musk-2023-7
Meta appears to hold the rights to 'X,' could complicate Twitter rebrand

Elon Musk renamed Twitter to "X" as part of his latest company overhaul, but it looks as if Meta already holds the rights to the name.

@randahl I assume the registration class overlaps, does it?
@randahl And to Musk we all shout a collective HA HA!

@randahl Problem will be; Fighting over a letter as a trademark. One cannot simply claim a letter sucessfully. A "picture/logo trademark" will be more fightable then this.

Also the MS trademark is NOT for social media, its for gaming related stuff.

It will totally be interesting indeed.

@randahl 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
@randahl marvellous entertainment
@randahl A bit surprised he didn’t call it “Q”.
@randahl @lisamelton Reminds me how 24 hours before a trade show where a former employer was going to release its new logo someone discovered that another company had a very similar logo. 24 hours to design a new logo and print new t-shirts and signage and everything else.
@randahl
Looks like Twitter didn't finish the rebranding yet. Looks a bit inconsistent. "X" on the main page blue bird in Analytics 🤔
@randahl Microsoft, Comcast, quietly watching him build his own gallows; Musk thinking that owning a domain name is the same thing as holding a trademark.
@randahl I read earlier that Meta owned it. This would certainly imply otherwise. :/
