OK, Mastodon question. Looking at my post on fediscience.org in the browser (firefox) this post doesn't show a link to any replies, but if I poke around I can find them on "Posts and Replies" under @FredBarraquand's profile on ecoevo.social. Can anyone explain why these replies don't show up/help me improve my mental model of how Mastodon works? (If this is an inevitable part of federation I don't like it ...)

@bbolker my guess is that it's an issue with different servers. I noticed before that sometimes when I click on someone's profile it only showed the followers from my server... Not been the replacement I've been hoping for. I'm still waiting for a better alternative :/

Frederic Barraquand@bbolker We have now funding + ed board + publisher so I am rather confident that the journal will see the light of day -- but not before some time in 2024. I'll try to post more detailed "official" news in September. So things are looking up but you may want to explore other options for your last preprint ;)
@bbolker What I hear colleagues are doing to avoid those fees at the moment -- before we can launch the Journal of Statistical Ecology -- is to redirect stat ecology papers towards 1/ Subscription journals like #JABES or #EnvironmentalAndEcologicalStatistics and 2/ #PCIEcology / #PCIMathCompBiol (there will be a #EURING special issue in the Peer Community Journal whose peer-review process will be done through these two channels). So option 1/ for Green OA and 2/ for Diamond OA.
@bbolker (I would not be surprised if there's an uptake in the number of methodological papers in #ESA journals and #EcologyLetters too)
