A new paper from the Stanford Internet Observatory finds troubling amounts of CSAM on Fediverse servers.

IFTAS is working on providing hash and match service and reporting support for ActivityPub servers, and will be convening platform and app developers to integrate CSAM scanning options in the default installation.

Providers are encouraged to consider blocking servers known to be a source of illegal content.

@jaz Interesting that the report does not list the sites included in the sample. One might almost suspect that this omission was an intentional effort to hide that the sample includes the defederated cluster of Japanese lolicon servers dedicated to the content the researchers claim to have discovered "on Mastodon".

I also notice that there is no declaration of funding or conflicts of interest. This has me wondering if this is an undeclared Microsoft marketing campaign.
