Made a cold soba noodle salad for a pot luck barbeque yesterday. Doubled the recipe so I can have lunches this week. Admittedly, I toned down the flavours in the ginger-sesame dressing (I didn't know who'd be there or what their flavour tolerances were), so for my lunches I'm finessing it a bit with a bit of chilli crisp today :). May poach some shrimp in a garlicky-gingery broth to add to it later in the week. Num.

I will say I do get a bit stressed over potlucks. I don't know who's coming or what they're like eating. I know, from previous experience (and from lurvely notes from newspaper subscribers complaining about how I write positively about food with flavour), I have to tone down herbs and spices and not be too challenging. My poor salad didn't get much love. Soba noodles aren't potatoes.

Especially when it was a workplace potluck, I learned to bring store-bought buns, butter, and/or pickles!
Potlucks are kind of nasty unless you know the other participants pretty well. Good to bring something that won't go bad and that you can bring back home to enjoy, as you are.
@EllenInEdmonton I just didn't want to bring potato salad, or crudite or one of the usual dishes that's often at potlucks or church socials. I figured since there are "Asian noodle salads" at chain grocery stores, it would be pretty safe. It was a good group, though :)

Haha, my favourite potluck item is the "Asian noodle salad" that involves breaking up a package or 3 of instant noodles, using the seasoning, adding cabbage and "Asian" dressing, sort of like this. It is reliably delicious.

Ramen Noodle Salad

This hearty ramen noodle salad is full of cabbage, carrots, crunchy ramen noodles, green onions and almonds, all tossed in an oriental dressing.
