#UNESCO Condemns russian Strike on Ukraine’s #Odesa

“UNESCO is deeply dismayed and condemns in the strongest terms the brazen attack carried out by the russian forces, which hit several cultural sites in the city centre of Odesa, home to the World Heritage property ‘The Historic Centre of Odesa’“, the Paris-based body said in a statement.

UNESCO chief Audrey Azoulay said it marked “an escalation of violence against (the) cultural heritage of #Ukraine ”

@EugeneMcParland Extraordinarily, it also represents violence against the cultural history of Russia, including damage to a cathedral founded by Catherine the Great. One can only conclude that Russia has given up all hope of winning this war.

@wndlb But that’s the point. Ostensively, Putin wants Ukraine to become part of Russia again. If that happens, Odessa and all its heritage will belong to the “motherland”. Why would you destroy your own heritage, unless you were convinced you’ll never get it back?
