‘only Gandhi And Thiruvalluvar Portraits In Court’ | Chennai News - Times of India

Courts in TN and Puducherry can display portraits of only Gandhiji and the Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar, the Madras high court has said.

The Times of India
@timesofindia @mastodonindians "What is really needed for protecting the cow is that the Hindus themselves should care for her, since they, too, kill her. The barbaric practice of blowing for extracting milk to the last drop, of tormenting oxen, which are the progeny of the cow, by using the goad, and of making them draw loads beyond their strength, these things amount to killing the cow. If we are serious about cow protection, we must put our own house in order." - Mahatma Gandhi

@animalsonlywantkindness @timesofindia @mastodonindians 💯. It's appalling to see cows reduced to feeding on garbage in the streets.

I mean no disrespect at all to Mahatma Gandhi (he is one of my heroes) but switching to goat milk only changes the animal that is abused. (IIRC my history books, Mahatma Gandhi preferred goat milk.)

@smurthys @animalsonlywantkindness @timesofindia @mastodonindians

What would you have us rather do - kill them instead, like the west does ?

And if so, why dont you kill the homeless people on your streets too, rather than have them sift through garbage to find meals ?

@sayonee @smurthys @timesofindia @mastodonindians How about we stop demand for beef milk so babies are no longer bred to sell their only food to humans. Humans don't need animal breast milk. Have you watched Maa Ka Doodh yet? It's free on YouTube in Hindi or English https://youtu.be/q5Y5sMz3RHU

@sayonee @smurthys @timesofindia @mastodonindians India is the world’s largest dairy producer and consumer, and a top beef exporter despite having no formal "broiler cattle" sector. Dairy farms are the beef farms of India

@animalsonlywantkindness @smurthys @timesofindia @mastodonindians

Those are fair points. And worthy of a discussion.

My reply was to Sean Murthy whose remark was ignorant and repetitive of racist tones used by westerners when talking about India and cows on the streets.

The cows are on the streets because their owners are poor and unable to take care of them. And they are living of the garbage because we want to give them as much rights as we can and not just 'kill' them off like the west does.

Hope @smurthys can show some backbone and criticize his western friends of killing off animals left right and center. Or atleast have a semblance of logic to be able to recognize a racist trope when he sees it.

@sayonee @smurthys @timesofindia @mastodonindians Have you watched Maa Ka Doodh yet (available in Hindi or English)? It might change your perception of why cows are roaming the streets and how to change this for the betterment of society https://youtu.be/yTscAyI6b5Q #indiandairy #MastodonIndians #ahimsa

@smurthys @timesofindia @mastodonindians Gandhi commented that he regretted using goat milk in his infirmity because of the same animal rights issues as with cows and buffaloes. The solution is to stop using animals for milk, eggs and flesh completely

@timesofindia @mastodonindians Gandhi was aware that drinking goat milk sacrifice the spirit of his vow, but his desire to live was great. The decision filled him with remorse, and he continually thought of ways in which he could give up goat’s milk. If Gandhi had access health/medical/nutritional we all currently benefit from today, it is very likely that it would have been able to treat his health condition without needing to use animal products or violating his vows, in words or in spirit.
