I saw this comment on an article posted on @arstechnica about #YouTube increasing their price for YouTube Premium. And yes, YT does need competition, the problem is most creators want their content to be seen, and hopefully get compensation for the effort involved in making the content, and #Google simply has the cash and gravitational presence to make it happen.

If you want competition, start supporting alternatives, and letting creators know that you won't be watching their content on YT. 💙

@jakedamon @tilvids @arstechnica I know. I also know a lot of people like Odysee. For whatever reason, after trying it for a few, I feel for #Odysee the way I feel for #bravebrowser  - another popular tool. Something about both I just don’t like. I know, I’m in the minority.

Before I started TILvids, as a creator I tried Odysee. Ultimately, the crypto focus turned me off, and the service was full of conspiracy nonsense and crypto scams. As a creator, I didn't want my content to live next to that (part of the reason I left YouTube to begin with) and so I decided to start my own #PeerTube instance around edutainment that I felt better reflected my goals. Fortunately, lots of other creators seem to like that approach as well.

@tilvids @jppelt @jakedamon @arstechnica crypto has fortunately dropped down into a (hopefully longstanding) "Trough of Disillusionment" but that doesn't stop me noping out any time I see it around.

I got an odysee for Mojeek at the same time as (thanks a lot) putting videos up on TIL, but it just syndicates from YT and I never point to it.

@privacydingus @tilvids @jppelt @jakedamon @arstechnica It's also encouraging to see he SEC finally giving a shit about regulating the crypto industry. As much as I still hate this organization for not challenging that industry's power at all before it's crash, it's still nice that we might no longer witness such gross financial crimes, seen in the crypto industry, ever again.
