Let’s be clear: If we allow a former president to completely avoid accountability for inciting an insurrection against the U.S. government, we will be inviting it to happen all over again.

Prosecute Donald Trump.

@rbreich ... not to mention encouraging #fascists all over the world.

Like those vampires in our fresh government in #Finland.

@rbreich
A failed insurrection without accountability is just practice.
@rbreich I'll be more blunt. If we allow Trump to get away with this, and it results in him getting re-elected and having free rein to do whatever he wants aided and abetted by the GOP, then America is done, stick a fork in it and look for somewhere else to go. Because if Trump gets what he wants, the US will become a single-party system, one nation under the GOP, with QAnon and injustice for all.

@zakalwe @rbreich

You forgot the evil Christianity that would destroy people.

@zakalwe @rbreich And nowhere left to run to, because the Christofascists will be marching into other countries. I mean, “democratic” America has dropped bombs on Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Serbia, … since the Vietnam War. A racist, followed by rabid fundamentalists, in command of the world’s most dangerous military, is unlikely to be very restrained.
@rbreich 134 gop treasonous congresspeople are still in office and STILL plotting insurrection by every means possible. State gop subversives are undermining voting rights, health care rights and voter restrictions to advance their treason.
@rbreich Gerald Ford should NEVER have pardoned Richard Nixon.
@schwuld00d @rbreich AMEN fault of Ford because corruption got free pass for laws broken No Constitution exists during my lifetime 1951-2023
@rbreich Agree. If we allow a former POTUS to avoid accountability for abusing his power, inciting an insurrection and conspiring with hostile foreign heads of state against us, we won't be a sovereign country for very much longer.
@Alan @rbreich Yeah! Like how America has destroyed sovereignty of numerous countries around the world.
@sifrmoja @rbreich This is true. We have done that in the past. And we need to acknowledge it - so that we never repeat it in the future.
@rbreich a clear violation of his oath of office, to protect and defend the constitution of the United States. You lost Donnie, suck it up.
@rbreich I would like to triple boost this post every hour! HOW is it even possible that such a criminal can contemplate running for office! DEFEND our constitution!

@rbreich

Dear Robert,

It is now abundantly clear that he will be prosecuted and way more likely than not, convicted as well. Time to back off on stuff like this.

Thank you.

@rbreich like how if you let US government's invade foreign countries they will do it over and over. He isn't there only criminal president. They all are.
@sifrmoja @rbreich America disappointed me the moment I was taught to read because Eisenhower gave the best last speech warning of MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX the debt caused by these humans will bring a WWIII because of lies that included false pandemic and poison jabs that harmed me totally disabled because false medical records in California in EPIC software.
@rbreich Prosecute and Execute. It was good enough for the Rosenbergs and they may have not even been guilty.
@rbreich Where is the accountability of the Toxic Bomb by East Palestine , OH fault of RAILROAD but poisoning the town land dioxins 1600 over safe since none safe!

@rbreich

“The absence of accountability is not neutrality, but affirmance: an invitation to wrongdoers to escalate wrongdoing and for others to follow suit.”

@rbreich Let’s be REAL clear!! 45 attempted the overthrow of the US government, ignored the laws, tried to establish himself as king, and end Democracy! He was only the opening act!! The Republican Party openly continues the insurrection as we speak!!!!

@rbreich And we won't get a chance to prosecute the next one that tries to incite an insurrection because he'll make sure that he succeeds.

Trump opened a door when he waged war on our system of peaceful transfer of power. We either slam it shut and lock it now or it's only a matter of time before the next person walks through and slams the door shut on democracy.

@rbreich Sadly, I am not optimistic about the outcome of charges against Trump. He is that perfect example of how money and power can defeat justice.
@rbreich you realize there are many people who want him to try again
@rbreich and again and again. The rules of law will have no meaning.
@rbreich were any of previous presidents of the US prosecuted for their crimes? No, they weren't. Why to start with Trump?
@rbreich in comparison to what George Bush Jr. did in Iraq Trump is an innocent boy
@rbreich Prosecute an convict.

@rbreich

It is possible that state secretaries of state could refuse to put Mr. Trump's name on the ballot on the grounds that he led a rebellion against the United States & hence disqualified from taking office & hence a spurious candidate. See Const Amd 14 Sec 3 https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/amendments-11-27 .

The Constitution: Amendments 11-27

[get-content name="print-page-left" include-tag="false" /] Constitutional Amendments 1-10 make up what is known as The Bill of Rights. Amendments 11-27 are listed below. @rbreich They WILL indict him and the totality of the charges will be in the hundreds, but my feeling is this may be the headline some of us read in the future!!!! “Former President T passed away at his residence at T Tower with relatives by his side today at the age of 102, as his trials for, (fill in the blank here ____________,) were scheduled to begin next week”

@rbreich

Srdja M. Popovic, a lawyer and activist, in this paper does a thought experiment: what would happen if somehow SFRY survived and Milosevic and his ilk were brought to trial according to then valid legislation. He would be charged for making a conspiracy to bring down Yugoslav state and executed.

@rbreich the only reason he might skate is the resistance by parts of the FBI and Main Justice until Smith was appointed. They wasted a year at least.
