Let’s be clear: If we allow a former president to completely avoid accountability for inciting an insurrection against the U.S. government, we will be inviting it to happen all over again.
Prosecute Donald Trump.

Dear Robert,
It is now abundantly clear that he will be prosecuted and way more likely than not, convicted as well. Time to back off on stuff like this.
Thank you.
“The absence of accountability is not neutrality, but affirmance: an invitation to wrongdoers to escalate wrongdoing and for others to follow suit.”

@rbreich And we won't get a chance to prosecute the next one that tries to incite an insurrection because he'll make sure that he succeeds.
Trump opened a door when he waged war on our system of peaceful transfer of power. We either slam it shut and lock it now or it's only a matter of time before the next person walks through and slams the door shut on democracy.
Absolutely agreed!
It is possible that state secretaries of state could refuse to put Mr. Trump's name on the ballot on the grounds that he led a rebellion against the United States & hence disqualified from taking office & hence a spurious candidate. See Const Amd 14 Sec 3 https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/amendments-11-27 .

Srdja M. Popovic, a lawyer and activist, in this paper does a thought experiment: what would happen if somehow SFRY survived and Milosevic and his ilk were brought to trial according to then valid legislation. He would be charged for making a conspiracy to bring down Yugoslav state and executed.
