Aww I missed them so much! Back in the states I would randomly encounter them in the forest every August (in Ohio the species was Goodyera pubescens which is a bit taller but otherwise very similar). These are Goodyera repens, unfortunately they don't grow right where I live in Austria but at least I got to see some with a 3 hour drive.

They grow in the forest and are so delicate. I think it's my favorite orchid!

@wildorchids I saw a spot on inaturalist about an hour away from where I live where someone had seen goodyera leaves - and since I'm completely addicted with orchids decided to go there after work to maybe find more. The spot was very hard to reach, a strip of remnant forest between a highway and train tracks, had to walk on a road along the tracks for 2km then sneak in after rail workers drove home for the day and contend with a myriad of deer keds, horse flies and ticks - but just minutes after I had given up and on my way out of the forest I did find a few plants!
