"everyone who can't figure out how to use mastodon is stupid" your website does not have a functioning system for following people on other servers
like i am sorry but i saw a survey going around on here where like 80% of the respondents used linux. no one on this website has any idea how normal users of technology work
"why do journalists keep telling people our website is hard to use" because there's a million weird little idiosyncratic things like "replies aren't all visible" and "you have to copy paste stuff to follow people on another instance" and the site culture is to gaslight anyone who points this out

@NoraReed

I was going to say, it's way easier to find replies here than on facebook - like, I'll literally click a notification that someone's sent a reply to me there, and give up on finding the context *after I've already clicked through*.

But facebook *used to* work during its growth phase. It's now in the immiseration phase, so I guess it's normal for the UX to be crap.

@NoraReed
How to follow someone on your fedi instance when you've found their account not through fedi, but like on their website or whatnot - that probably needs fixing.

Like, yeah it's no different from what we do with email addresses, but we forget what it was like before everyone online basically knew what to do with email addresses.

@dragonfrog it's like doing email without working mailto: links

@NoraReed

I'm honestly not sure how well mailto: links work anymore given how common webmail is.

For me personally they do what I don't want more often than they do what I want. But again: here I am on fedi so almost by definition weird.
